Jewellery Care

Fine jewellery is durable, not invulnerable. A little routine keeps a piece looking the way it did the day it was finished.

Daily wear

Put jewellery on last, after fragrance, cosmetics and hairspray, and take it off first. Remove pieces before swimming, bathing, sport, gardening or sleeping.

Chlorine, bleach and household cleaners attack alloyed gold and can loosen settings. Keep them well away.

Cleaning at home

Bathe gold and platinum pieces in warm water with a drop of unscented washing-up liquid, work gently around the settings with a very soft brush, rinse in clean water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Never use ultrasonic cleaners on emeralds, opals, pearls, turquoise or any treated stone.

Storage

Store each piece separately in its own pouch or compartment. Diamonds scratch everything, including other diamonds. Keep pieces out of direct sunlight and away from steady heat.

Pearls & porous stones

Pearls are organic and slightly porous. Wipe them with a soft damp cloth after wearing, never soak them, and have knotted strands restrung every eighteen months to two years of regular wear.

Emeralds are commonly oiled; opals and turquoise hold water. All three should be cleaned only with a barely damp cloth.

Professional service

We offer complimentary cleaning, inspection and re-polishing for the lifetime of every piece. We recommend an inspection once a year — it is how loose claws are caught before a stone is lost.
